The Easthampton Council on Aging Book Club meets at the Council on Aging every other month on the third Thursday, from 2 – 3:30pm. We provide copies of each title for participants to check out. We are delighted to be hosting an all-ages Taiko perfomance on the library lawn! Taiko is a full-body performance art that blends physicality and musicality, movement and rhythm. Originating in Japan but molded by a globalized world, taiko performances pay homage to ancient rhythms as well as innovate contemporary beats. Bring a blanket to sit on if you’d like.
Mountain River Taiko is a multi-generational community group sharing their love of Japanese drumming in western Massachusetts and beyond for over 10 years. Presenting, our newest discussion club! Every other month we’ll be meeting to discuss and delight in a masterpiece of cinema.
September’s selection is: The Wicker Man (1973, dir. Robin Hardy)
After receiving an anonymous tip, Sergeant Howie travels to a remote Scottish Island in search of a missing girl. Despite residents insisting that she never even existed, Howie doesn’t back down and soon finds himself lost in a unfamiliar world.
An enduring folk-horror masterpiece, the 1973 Wicker Man is often considered among the greatest works of English cinema. Come for the legendary Christopher Lee, and stay for the hypnotic, terrific thrills.
There will be DVD copies at the library, plus the movie is available on the streaming service Kanopy with your library card. No matter how you watch, come prepared to discuss at our meeting!
