Our Graphic Novel Book Club meets monthly, on the second Tuesday, from 6:30 – 8 PM. All are welcome to join! Email Anastasia at bookclubs@ewmlibrary.org if you are interested in joining and to request the next book title.

In this class, led by artist Lisa Hersey of Antler Editions, we will explore different bookbinding techniques that can be recreated at home. Making a book can be as simple as folding one sheet of paper, or involve 16 pages and sewing! Students will learn how to put content into their books for reproducing editions of their work for themselves or to bring to Press On: Indie Publishing Festival! We will have time to work together and create original books by either decorating the covers, or putting words/drawings onto the pages. Ages 12+, participants must be able to hold and handle a needle. Space is limited, sign up at the library in person or by calling us at 413-527-1031 or emailing us at youthdept@ewmlibrary.org.

An opportunity for New  English Speakers to practice in a comfortable and welcoming environment and to gain confidence in general communication and in the communication skills needed in ordinary every day life situations.  

Students will learn to:

1. Improve their pronunciation  
2. Build their vocabulary, including slang and idioms
3. Improve their comprehension
4. Build cross cultural skills
5. Gain confidence when speaking English
6. Build life skills useful for seeking medical care, opening bank accounts, job searches and interviews

Classes will meet for one hour twice a week, with flexibility for participants to join once or twice a week as suits their schedule. The schedule can be adjusted to suit the participants’ own schedule needs once the group is formed. 

The initial round of sessions will run for five weeks, beginning Feb 17 & 20. Saturdays will be 10AM-11AM and Tuesdays will be 6PM-7PM.

Our Intersectional Speculative Fiction Book Club meets every other month, on the third Tuesday, from 6:30 – 8:00 PM. All are welcome to join! Registration is required. Email Elli at bookclubs@ewmlibrary.org if you are interested in joining and to request the next book title.

The Easthampton Council on Aging Book Club meets at the Council on Aging every other month on the third Thursday, from 2 – 3:30pm. We provide copies of each title for participants to check out. Are you interested in art, movies, or just want to try something new?  Come to the library to learn all about the art of making storyboards! A storyboard is a series of drawings that visualize what shots will be needed before the crew sets out to film.  Instead of a camera, we use pencils, paper, and our imagination to bring the words to life.  At this program, you’ll get to learn about filmmaking, get a few drawing tips, and make some storyboards of your very own.  No prior experience or skill is required!  Storyboarding is about visualizing ideas, not making brilliant works of art, so there is literally zero pressure.  Ages 10+, Registration is recommended–stop by the library, give us a call at 413-527-1031, or send us an email at youthdept@ewmlibrary.org.
