The Easthampton Council on Aging Book Club meets at the Council on Aging every other month on the third Thursday, from 2 – 3:30pm. We provide copies of each title for participants to check out. Can an author tell a complete story in just 100 words? John Sheirer answers that question as he reads from and discusses his new book, For Now: One Hundred 100-Word Stories. These stories combine humor, depth, meaning, love, loss, and connection–all in exactly 100 words each. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

Author Bio: John Sheirer lives in Western Massachusetts and is in his 31st year of teaching at Asnuntuck Community College in Northern Connecticut. He writes a monthly column for The Daily Hampshire Gazette. We will have lots of fun and engaging materials and an inspiring winter backdrop of the city for participants of all ages to add to; it will be displayed at the library afterward. Our Graphic Novel Book Club meets monthly, on the second Tuesday, from 6:30 – 8 PM. All are welcome to join! Email Anastasia at bookclubs@ewmlibrary.org if you are interested in joining and to request the next book title.

In this class, led by artist Lisa Hersey of Antler Editions, we will explore different bookbinding techniques that can be recreated at home. Making a book can be as simple as folding one sheet of paper, or involve 16 pages and sewing! Students will learn how to put content into their books for reproducing editions of their work for themselves or to bring to Press On: Indie Publishing Festival! We will have time to work together and create original books by either decorating the covers, or putting words/drawings onto the pages. Ages 12+, participants must be able to hold and handle a needle. Space is limited, sign up at the library in person or by calling us at 413-527-1031 or emailing us at youthdept@ewmlibrary.org.
