Sounds Staged: Acting Workshop with Kate!

Kate Carreiro from Enchanted Circle Theater joins us to share her expertise in acting! In the first of two workshops, we’ll explore the science behind music and sound. We’ll play acting and improv games, using what we learn to improve our stage presence. Registration is required. Recommended for ages 7 and up.

Pokemon Club!

Over 20 years later, the “fad” that was Pokemon is still going strong, with more ways to engage with the franchise than ever before.

Come share your love of all things Pokemon with other enthusiasts! Feel free to bring your device to play Pokemon GO, you’re trading cards to build decks and battle, or any of the many handheld video games to play and share with each other. As this new club evolves, we may also explore opportunities to watch the anime or play certain console-only games.

Art Composers with Lois!

She has once again devised a broad spectrum of open-ended art projects, this time around the summer’s theme, Libraries Rock! We may even listen to some music to inspire us while working on our projects. Instrument Petting Zoo!

Come meet the instruments! Beth, an area music teacher, will introduce us to the different types of instruments and how they create their different sounds. Kids will get a hands-on experience with some of them, to get a feel for whether or not they might want to pursue learning how to play. Registration is required. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

Summer Reading Rocks at NAC!

Wishing we had done our rock climbing event this past April? We’ve got your back… Join us for a special summer edition of this yearly favorite! Better yet, since this isn’t a fundraiser, participation is FREE.

In order to make it available to the most kids, this event will be split into two hour-long sessions — please only sign up for one. You will need to meet us at the Northampton Athletic Club, but trained belayers and all the equipment will be provided for you. Registration is required. Recommended for ages 5 and up (small children may just need to use a special kind of climbing harness).

Around the World: Stories & Instruments!

Local storyteller Dr. Gail N. Herman returns to share some of her favorite treasures from around the world. She’ll show off instruments she’s collected from other countries, and then you’ll help perform multicultural stories using those instruments to create sound effects! At the end of the program, you can find what inspired you and work with the Library’s Storytelling & Writing Group — led by Gail — to write down a story of your own. Registration required. For ages 4 and up (parent participation suggested for ages 6 and under).
