What will be looking for and what will we find? Meghan from the Hampden Hampshire Conservation District will lead us through the scavenger hunt! Meet at the library (Youth Department) and we will walk together down to the Manhan Bike Trail to start our scavenger hunt (or meet us at Tandem on the trail). Learn how to make this simple and very cute froggy! This is a beginner project with glue, needles, felt, and thread. We will use a running stitch on precut felt, adding some beans and stuffing, finishing it off with gluing on their eyes. Ages 6+ Limited space, registration required.

Summer Mug Magic is here! Join Moira virtually to create an incredibly delicious s’mores mug cake in our kitchen Campfire (microwave). We will use very easy pantry ingredients for a quick campfire snack treat! Contact youthdept@ewmlibrary.org to register and receive the recipe with link for program. Laura from the Mass Audubon Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Easthampton will help us learn and identify frogs from around our state. We can use this information for our next camping and hiking adventure this summer! In-person, registration required. Ages 3+

Do It Yourself Paper Binoculars. It’s easy! Join us and decorate these unique binoculars any way you want! Made of paper, we will be provide different supplies for you to use to create your own unique pair.  Perfect to use during a backyard exploration, a hiking adventure, or even birding. Our favorite artist, Lois, is back this summer with a fabulous workshop in Adventures in Art! Each week she will present a new form of an art adventure to explore and create. We never know where we will go with Lois Off the Beaten Path! Ages 6+ Registration required

Calling all builders! Bring your friends and let your imagination run wild. Creations will remain on display at the Library until the Club’s next meeting.

Join wildlife rehabilitator Tom Ricardi for his ever-popular presentation on birds of prey. This program is designed for all ages. Tom will share fascinating facts and information about many different magnificent birds, demonstrate some of their unique behaviors and inspire children of all ages to appreciate, respect and conserve these important members of our wild kingdom. Registration is required.

Tom Ricardi is a licensed rehabilitator and wildlife biologist. He runs Massachusetts Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center in Conway, MA, and is now retired after 40 years of service as a Massachusetts Environmental Conservation police officer.

Do you have a sense of adventure, a desire to experience new vistas, a keen eye for detail and a storyteller’s flair? These are a few of the elements of the travel writer’s toolkit that Laurie will discuss in this travel writing workshop. You’ll practice in-class writing exercises to awaken the imagination and help guide your interest in writing about the places you’ve traveled or want to travel. You’ll walk away with some ideas to begin, methods to engage your reader, and stimulate your own sense of wonder! This is also a class for those who don’t travel but would like to armchair travel and write about what places intrigue them.

Facilitator Bio:
Laurie McMillan has an MFA in fiction and has led writing workshops for 21 years in all genres. She was the co-founder of the Pittsburgh Memoir Workshop, and several workshop series in venues as diverse as art museums, outpatient clinics, and at the VA. She believes that creativity and community in a safe and supportive environment can help writers do their best work. She is published in several magazines including American Journal of Nursing and the Healing Muse.
