Computer classes offered monthly in collaboration with the Easthampton Council on Aging and Enrichment Center. Topics are subject to change at pace with student learning. Laptops provided through the Library for use during class. Held downstairs at the Eastampton Council on Aging. Seats are limited! Learn about robots and how they are made and what robots do in the world today. You’ll find out about self-driving cars and the build your own car with Digital Designer instructions and EV3 robotics kits.
You will learn to program your car to drive through the streets on a challenge mat. Then add code to use the color sensor so the car can drive itself.
At this introductory workshop, we’ll help students create free accounts and explain the basics of sprites, costumes, and coding with visual blocks to create engaging, interactive stories. Students will learn to incorporate rich, multimedia into their projects. We will be focusing on the theme Code Your Hero. This workshop is funded by the Public Policy and Advocacy Office of the American Library Association. Ages 7+. Space is limited, registration required.
Using Scratch, we will make a name come to life through animation, sound and music. It can be a nickname, the name of a favorite sports team, place, activity or anything else you can think of-use your imagination! Space is limited, registration is required. Ages 7+
Show your Skills in the Ring!
Students learn to create a vehicle that can compete in a SumoBot tournament. Each robot attempts to push the others out of the ring while avoiding falling out. In addition to the coding, students have an engineering challenge to create attachments that can increase the defensive or offensive capabilities of their SumoBot. This workshop develops teamwork and cooperation as well as friendly competition during the tournament! Ages 12+
