Come learn about the history and hidden costs of single-use plastic. Explore cost-saving solutions and simple lifestyle changes that can help usher in a culture of reuse. Gifts of reusable silverware, storage jars, water bottles, travel mugs, and tea infusers will be provided.

Through Culture of Reuse Enterprises, PJ Niver works to develop community awareness of the social, economic, and environmental impacts of our current single-use culture. Culture of Reuse provides direct support through tools, resource sharing and skill development to help individuals and communities acquire and sustain new habits to adopt a reuse lifestyle.

Inaugural Easthampton Poet Laureate Gary Metras will be reading a selection from his three most recent books: White Storm, Captive in the Here, and River Voice.

Gary Metras’s new books of poetry are River Voice (Adastra Press, 2019), Captive in the Here (Cervena Barva Press 2018), and White Storm (Presa Press 2018), short-listed for the Mass. Poetry Book of the Year by the Mass. Center for the Book. The author of seventeen previous collections of poetry, his poems have appeared in over 250 journals, including America, The Common, Poetry, Poetry East, and Poetry Salzburg Review. He lives in Easthampton, Massachusetts, where he was inducted as the city’s inaugural Poet Laureate in April 2018. He is past president of the Pioneer Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited, the national cold river conservation non-profit. A retired educator, he fly fishes the rivers of western Mass. as often as possible.

Chaya Grossberg will discuss her work consulting with people coming off psychiatric drugs & what helps them the most. She will also share from her personal experience of having withdrawn from psychiatric meds herself. Q & A to follow.

About the Author: Chaya Grossberg has been sharing her psychiatric survivor and trauma story publicly for over 15 years and is an advocate and consultant to those coming off psychiatric drugs and/or seeking alternative approaches to distress. She has written a book about her work called Freedom From Psychiatric Drugs and has worked professionally with people seeking alternatives to the mainstream psychiatric narrative as a teacher, facilitator, program coordinator, and consultant to individuals and families. She has coordinated open mic speak out style events for psychiatric survivors to share their stories in poetry, speech and performance. Coronavirus, quarantine and the sudden lack of job stability has everyone stressed out about money. Debts are high, expenses haven’t changed and cash savings are near non-existent. As a result, many families are in a tight spot financially and are learning for the first time how to really budget and talk with their spouse about money.

As a financial coach, Gil Hogan’s job is to guide people through the process of knocking out debt and taking control of their finances so that they can find the financial future they’ve been wanting.

Gil knows the grind you’re probably going through. It’s hard to press on without a plan that inspires you. Gil needed one, and he bets you do too. Establishing a clear mission could change everything. It did for him.

Come join Gil Tuesday evening, October 13th from 7-8pm as he reads and answers some tricky money questions he’s received over the past 6 months. Feel free to bring your own questions as well.

Presenter Bio: Gil Hogan’s mission is to help everyone experience the freedom of being debt free. He assists with budgeting, paying off debt, and crafting financial plans. Gil and his wife Jennifer live in Easthampton, with the only threat to their debt free status being their frequent trips to Small Oven Bakery.
